Drug & Tobacco Free Workplace

Employees work a 24/48 hour schedule. As a member of an emergency response team, which may respond to emergencies such as:

  • Auto Accidents
  • Hazardous Materials Dents
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Structure, Vehicle and Brush Fires, Gas Leaks

Monroe County Fire Rescue requires its employees to be drug and tobacco free.

Firefighter / Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship required beyond high school. Must have the following:

  • State of Florida Firefighter Minimum Standards Certification pursuant to Florida Statutes, Chapter 633.
  • Florida certified Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic, current CPR and EVOC (16 hour) certifications.
  • 1 year prior related work experience as a firefighter or volunteer firefighter preferred, preferably in Monroe County.
  • Trained, experienced and otherwise qualified to drive fire apparatus and emergency medical care vehicle, maintain the appropriate class of driver’s license and completion of an approved 16 hour EVOC course in accordance with Florida Statutes.
  • Must be a non-user of tobacco products for at least one year immediately preceding application, and sign a sworn statement attesting to this fact as required by Florida Statute 633.34. Once hired, the use of tobacco or tobacco products is prohibited during employment.

Salary

  • $45,625 - 27 day work period

Firefighter / Paramedic

Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship required beyond high school. Must have the following:

  • State of Florida Firefighter Minimum Standards Certification pursuant to Florida Statutes, Chapter 633.
  • Florida certified Paramedic, and current CPR, ACLS, and EVOC (16 hour) certifications.
  • 1 year prior related work experience as a firefighter or volunteer firefighter preferred, preferably in Monroe County.
  • Trained, experienced and otherwise qualified to drive fire apparatus and emergency medical care vehicle, maintain the appropriate class of driver’s license and completion of an approved 16 hour EVOC course in accordance with Florida Statutes.
  • Must be a non-user of tobacco products for at least one year immediately preceding application, and sign a sworn statement attesting to this fact as required by Florida Statute 633.34. Once hired, the use of tobacco or tobacco products is prohibited during employment.

Salary

  • $45,625 - 27 day work period
  • Upon becoming a charge paramedic, base salary will increase by 10%

Selection Process

We will review applications for overall qualifications, relevant training, and experience. Qualified applicants will participate in a pre-employment screening process which includes a physical abilities test, written exam, practical skills exam, background investigation, and post-offer pre-employment medical exam and drug test.
