MONROE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE PARTICIPATES IN 38 STORY 'FIGHT FOR AIR' CLIMB

Monroe County Fire rescue at Fight For Air climb

Fourteen Monroe County Fire Rescue firefighters, two Trauma Star flight nurses, and five family members participated in the Fight For Air Climb Saturday in Miami. They climbed 38 stories in bunker gear and air packs to raise money for the American Lung Association. This is the 7th year MCFR has participated in the event.

This year, they climbed in honor of FF Foster’s dad Rick Wires and LT Vandervoort’s mom Sherie West who both died in the past month from lung cancer. They made custom helmet shields with their names on them and wore them for the climb.

Flight nurse Heidi McKaige also placed first in the first responder, non firefighter category.
