  2. Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative Mental Health Conference

    Monroe County Social Services will be hosting an Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative mental health conference on Friday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Murray Nelson Government Center in Key Largo. The focus will be on health issues for patients with Alzheimer's Disease and their caregivers. The educational conference is designed to provide knowledge, skills, and methods of coping to family caregivers, professionals, and others involved in the care of individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and other memory disorders. Topics will include mental health problems in Alzheimer's Disease, the mental health of the caregiver, managing problem behaviors, and more. This conference is sponsored by The University of Miami Health System, in collaboration with the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs, Alliance for Aging, and Monroe County Social Services.   1. Informal Community Meeting - Rowell's Park Preliminary Design Plans

    June 24, 2019, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Murray Nelson Government Center BOCC Room

    Monroe County Project Management will host an informal community meeting regarding the preliminary design plans for Rowell’s Waterfront Park in Key Largo on June 24 at 6 p.m. at the Murray Nelson Government Center’s meeting room. The state of the design concept plans will be shown at the meeting and community members can add additional input that will later be presented to the Monroe County Parks and Recreation Board and the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners. The preliminary design concept includes a splash pad, bathrooms, dog park, kayak and canoe launch areas, water access areas, and other improvements to the property. In addition to the design, Monroe County Public Works recently added 70 pallets of grass, 60 silver buttonwoods, and 30 parking spaces near the water at the park. Rowell’s Waterfront Park is an 8-acre, kid- and dog-friendly passive park along Florida Bay at Mile Marker 104.5. Admission to the park is free.

  2. 3rd Annual Mango Fest of Key West

    Mango Fest of Key West features all things mango including mango tasting, mango trees and mango daiquiris. The culinary competitions between local chefs and residents alike showcases the colorful abilities of what the mango, also known as the king of fruit, has to offer. The Vendor Village gives art collectors and foodies the experience of a festival atmosphere. Music is provided along with live radio broadcasts. The Police Athletic League’s programs are designed to get children involved in sports and in educational programs. It provides a safe place where kids can go after school and on weekends. It encourages teamwork and strong self-esteem. Members of the Key West Police Department donate their time and effort to help with an array of programs that include boxing and basketball. PAL supports computer classes after school and provides entertaining and educational camps during the summer and on holidays.

Fire Rescue

  1. Beat the Heat - Bluewater Apartments, Tavernier

    June 29, 2019, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

    Monroe County Fire Rescue will host seven “Beat the Heat” events this summer for children of all ages throughout Monroe County. Monroe County firefighters and firetrucks will provide a gentle stream of misting water in a safe and fun environment. Children are asked to wear bathing suits, water shoes, and sunscreen, and to bring a bottle of water and a towel. Monroe County Fire Rescue will provide snow cones. All the events are from 10 to 11 a.m. The dates include: Saturday, June 29 – Bluewater Apartments, Tavernier Saturday, July 6 – Layton Community Baptist Church Saturday, July 13 – Big Pine Community Park Saturday, July 20 – Sugarloaf School Saturday, July 27 – Bay Point Park Saturday, Aug. 3 – Big Coppitt Fire Station Saturday, Aug. 10 – Bernstein Park, Stock Island For more information, call 305-289-6005. The dates will be canceled or rescheduled if there is threatening weather.
