Monroe County Fire Rescue's crew members value their interaction with the residents and visitors they serve. They host or participate in a variety of community work and engagement throughout the year.
Beat the Heat
Beat the Heat is a great way to meet your neighborhood firefighters and cool off from the summer sun. Each summer, firefighters provide a series of Beat the Heat events throughout the Florida Keys. These events include gentle streams of misting water for children of all ages to run through and enjoy in a safe and fun environment. There is also free snow cones and giveaways.
Children are encouraged to wear bathing suits and sunscreen, old tennis shoes or sneakers, and should bring a towel.
Beat the Heat events are listed on the Monroe County Fire Rescue calendar once they are scheduled.
Each year, the firefighters spend several nights driving Santa around local neighborhoods. Parades and routes are listed on the calendar when they are scheduled.
