IRMA: Restoring Our Environment

Marine Debris Cleanup

Monroe County is overseeing a $49.2 million project to remove hurricane debris from 172 of the remaining most impacted canals in the Keys. A workforce of about 60 people – using 15 barges, 5 sonar boats, 4 grapple trucks and other equipment – has been working at several sites simultaneously throughout the Keys to complete the project within the grant-mandated time frame of 220 days that ends in March. The funding is from the USDA's National Resources Conservation Service. For more information, click on Marine Debris Cleanup.
