Marine & Port Advisory Committee

Florida Statutes Section 315.13 authorizes the governing body of a county to form a port authority by resolution. The Marine and Port Advisory Committee was initially created on February 15, 1977 with the adoption of Resolution 024-1977 and later reactivated on February 20, 1991 by Resolution 057-1991. The purpose of this committee is to make informed recommendations and give advice to the Monroe County Port Authority and to the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners on matters relating to ports and marine issues as requested by action of the Port Authority or the BOCC, Staff, or the MPAC itself.

With the adoption of Resolution 110-2013 on March 20, 2013 the membership was changed from ten to seven members. The membership consists of one member appointed by each County Commissioner, one member appointed by the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council (which does not represent commercial fishing) and one member appointed by the Florida Keys Commericial Fishermen's Association.
