The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners approved a contract with Star of the Sea Foundation (SOS) to prepare fresh lunches at the Key West Senior Center, located at 1400 Kennedy Blvd.
“SOS kitchen provides fresh lunches, prepared daily for our senior citizens,” said Jenna Tuttle, Social Services Nutrition Coordinator. “This is a big step up for our community members as we expand this new offering in Key West.”
GA Foods, a longtime partner of the County, is continuing to provide meals to the other senior nutrition sites throughout the County and the home-delivered meal service for homebound residents. The lunch program is funded Countywide by an Alliance for Aging and Department of Elder Affairs grant.
The Key West Senior Center is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and serves lunch at noon. The center also provides computers, television, and a place for senior citizens to socialize. Seniors, over the age of 60, who are interested in the lunch program can visit as a guest and then are asked to sign up for the program due to the grant funding. The program is free and there are no income requirements.
