The tax collector is an agent for state and local government agencies for the collection of revenue and public funding. The tax collector is responsible for the collection of ad valorem taxes, non-ad valorem taxes, motor vehicle and vessel registration, title applications, collection of sales tax, issuance of hunting and fishing licenses, driver license services, concealed weapons, local business tax, issuance of City of Key West parking permits and collection of tourist development taxes.
The tax collector works with information provided by the Property Appraiser's office for the tax roll, which consists of real estate taxes, tangible taxes, and assessments, like fire, solid waste and sewer. These taxes and assessments are collected Nov. 1 of each year and become delinquent on April 1. There are discounts given for early payment.
Residents can apply in person at the Key West or Key Largo office for a concealed weapons license. Birth certificates can be applied for at the Key West Driver's License office or the Key Largo office.
